Remember how those ‘iPhone haters’ (Monkey Boy and Co.) pretty much predicted the doom for the iPhone? Now, if you recall some of these ‘haters’ also predicted the iPhone’s doom in the Japanese market. If you are one of those ‘iPhone-will-not-work-in-Japan-because-the-Japanese-network-is-far-too-advanced-for-it’ and those ‘Japan-hates-iPhone’ read this and you find that having an open mind will just make you look a lot less stupid after the test of time.
“For Softbank’s chairman and chief executive, the company’s role as the only official supplier of the iPhone in Japan gives it a strong attraction in a consumer market characterized by a fascination for gadgetry. “When we launched the iPhone [in the summer of 2008], some people said those phones were not suited for Japanese cellphone users,” said Masayoshi Son at a news conference. Most Japanese cellphones are smaller and lighter than the Apple device. “But those [skeptics] have been proven completely wrong … The iPhone is selling so well that we are really feeling the boost from it,” Mr. Son said. He declined to say how many iPhones Softbank had sold, but described the handset as “the biggest contributor to third-quarter handset sales,” and “a major contributor to growth in data communication revenue.” – Wall Street Journal

The App Store had reached 3,000,000,000 downloads. within a short 3 years. How are these iPhone killers to go beat that? Monkey Boy Ballmer tried to undercut Apple’s Jan 27th announce by announce his own ‘vapor software’ tablet – the rumored ‘Courier’. as quoted in macrumors:
Just as Ballmer took the stage this evening, Microsoft prematurely posted a press release covering the highlights of Ballmer’s presentation, and in highlighting the impact of Microsoft’s Windows 7 release, the report notes Ballmer’s demonstration of three new computer systems, including a brief mention of a slate-style PC from HP.
Current and future hardware shown on stage included:
- A new touch-enabled slate PC from HP
- The Sony VAIO L all-in-one laptop built for HD entertainment and multimedia content creation, and including a 24-inch touchscreen
- The Lenovo A300, one of the thinnest PCs yet at just 18mm, but with a 21.5-inch HD widescreen LED display
Ballmer’s introduction of slate-style tablet devices briefly highlighted three examples from Pegatron, Archos, and HP. In focusing on the HP slate, Ballmer offered an example of the device running a Kindle application and noted only that the product will be coming later this year, with no pricing information given. HP has also posted a brief video teaser for the forthcoming device.
Here’s their lame HP ‘trailer’
Leave it to Monkey Boy Ballmer to show something that’s half baked, with no price and has no specific release date.
Google finally lived up to their hype by introducing their own ‘superphone’ – Nexus 1. Based on the Android 2.1 OS, this ‘superphone’ has a lot of spunk in the display and speed; built in voice recognition feature that works throughout the phone’s OS and app and has the heavy Google Marketing Tank behind it. We’ll see how this phone holds up after the new iPhone is released in the 2nd quarter of this year.
Finally, after it’s failed bid on AdMob, Apple took 1% of it’s war chest and purchased Quattro Wireless, the 2nd largest mobile ad company. Anticipate on seeing ads on your Mac OS, iPhone, and the Tablet in the future.
